Service Tech Vault™

Useful technical tools should be available to people because they need them—not because they can afford expensive software.

Service Tech Vault software is therefore available without a software license fee under the Service Tech Vault Community License v1.0.

The principle

✓ Use it

Individuals, technicians, schools, nonprofits, governments and businesses may use covered Service Tech Vault software subject to STVCL-1.0.

✓ Earn money for your work

Technicians and businesses may charge reasonable fees for genuine installation, programming, configuration, administration, hosting, training, customization and support services.

✕ Don't steal the identity

You may not remove Service Tech Vault attribution and present the original software as something you created.

✕ Don't white-label and sell STV

You may not rebrand Service Tech Vault software as your own proprietary software product and commercially sell or license it without permission.

Why this license exists

Service Tech Vault was built around a simple idea: useful technology should help everyone—from people with very limited resources to large organizations.

The license is intended to preserve free access to the software while allowing technicians, programmers, administrators and service providers to earn reasonable compensation for real work they perform.

What it does not permit is taking the Service Tech Vault project, removing its identity, claiming the work as somebody else's creation, and turning the software itself into an unauthorized proprietary commercial product.
